Tranportation
The transportation industry is known for its high standards of safety, availability, reliability, and efficiency. The industry is broken down into three sectors:
- Air transportation (aircraft and spacecraft)
- Sea transportation (ships and marine vessels).
- Land transportation (ground vehicles).

Airplanes, merchant and cruise ships, and high speed trains are especially equipped with safety-critical, reliability-centered high-value assets. Continuous monitoring of the conditions of these assets is a paramount priority to prevent catastrophic failures which can cause losses of the assets and human lives.
Continuous monitoring uses software and hardware to accomplish four things:
- Collection of operational data
- Analysis of the data.
- Reporting potential problems.
- Recommendation of preventive and corrective actions
